Today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Heraldo Muñoz received Steven Ciobo, the Australian Minister of Trade, in audience. During the meeting, the leaders talked about the main aspects of the bilateral relationship and topics of common interest, such as the cooperation between Australia and the Pacific Alliance, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) and cooperation in the arena of defense. After the meeting, the Foreign Minister headed a luncheon in honor of Minister Ciobo.

The relationship between Chile and Argentina has been progressing smoothly, which has resulted in a permanent flow of official and work-based visits, including the recent state visit of the Australian General-Governor, Sir Peter Cosgrove.
It is worth noting that the Free Trade Agreement, in force since 2009, has led to a major boost in trade between Chile and Australia, which in 2015 reached US $697 million. Between 1974 and 2014, Australian investments in Chile totaled US $4.5 billion, representing about 5% of the total amount of foreign investments in Chile during that period. This positions Australia as the sixth largest major investor in Chile.
